About the Author
Teel Sale is an artist, writer, and teacher, and has had a career of national and international shows (drawing, painting, printmaking, and performance art). She has served as art editor of Trilobite Press, book designer for university presses, book reviewer for Texas Books in Review, and visiting artist/lecturer at colleges and universities nationwide. Recipient of a Pouch Cove Foundation Grant (June, 2001) for drawing, Sale was a faculty member (drawing, painting, and honors) at the University of North Texas from 1975 through 1989.

Great book!

I had to buy this for class. When I did, I thought "Ugh, an art textbook." Thought it was going to be another one we never opened and I wasted money on.
Surprise! I actually really, really like this book. It's great for an introduction to drawing (my boyfriend doesn't know it yet, but he's going to be reading it soon so he can quit asking me drawing questions!). It also has tons of great examples when I need to be inspired for class.

Good for the serious learner

This is more of an academic textbook on drawing. It is quite through and covers many basic drawing techniques and gives a variety of studio exercises. Would be best understood by someone who has a basic intro to drawing already, if they want to work on their own without an instructor. Some of the exercises are fairly complex and require various media.
